Providing bespoke talks addressing education and employment for disabled people and employers.
There is no better expertise than the university of life, and that is exactly the expertise that I’m offering, I can offer suggestions to offices, shops and any other setting on disabled facilities ie bathroom etc.
No listed cost because my priority is an accessible work place/public space, I ask my expenses and a donation of your choice, either a talk or sharing my mission or a monetary gift
I’m Kirsty, I’m a new speaker on disability inspired by my own experiences in education. The title of my talk is Golden Hearts. Which in itself explains what my purpose is. A frequency that I have found throughout my school life was good people who had good intentions, but insufficient knowledge of Cerebral Palsy to bring the level of care they were obviously aiming for and that we require. Basically good people who were not equipped. This lead to frustration and a sense of hopelessness for the disabled person, leading them to even give up on learning just for an easier option. The assistants left believing that the person was deliberately not co-operating, being difficult and sometimes incorrectly identifying learning difficulties from misunderstanding the condition. But I believe we’ve got what we need for a positive relationship between assistant and disabled person ; which is good intentions and kind hearts and the desire to help, which is the perfect place to start. All we need now is enough understanding of physical disability (especially Cerebral Palsy) to improve the experience of disabled people in our education system.
The way forward is very very simple, we’ve already got the bit that we can’t purchase, it’s either in you or it’s not, kindness and love.
Now for the bit that we can learn: How do we embrace that kindness to help youngsters in education who have difficulties. My mission is of course physical disability but these values and the message can help improve treatment of mental disability .
Although my background and focus is primarily in education, it isn’t just school in which we find a good opportunity for education and improving every day life. I am keen to speak at businesses and places of work. Career is where we spend the vast majority of our week and so it is an important place to ensure disability is addressed and supported correctly. The same principles are required to provide the best care and assistance for disabled colleagues. Some will say it isn’t their responsibility to help disabled folk to live their lives. I absolutely agree. The aim of my talks are to demonstrate that while lives don’t need to go through upheaval, but with renewed attitudes inclusion will come with minimal effort. My aim which I know we as a society can achieve, is to get to a point where inclusion and correct attitudes make disabled people fit in without difficulty
